It seems to me that we are all in a constant state of decision making throughout our day, often subconsciously. KU uses Jesus’s second commandment to make decisions with all day long, but on a very conscious level. We will be observing others. This is an exercise only, of the mind and heart, and requires no physical action. We will be quietly evaluating other peoples’ interactions with Jesus’ second commandment, ‘love your neighbor as yourself’.
I just have to say again that this is an exercise only, keep it private and for your own understanding. This exercise will be using God’s Word as the basis for a decision we will make as often as possible. I suggest you begin with a TV show you are watching, one you are familiar with the characters would be good. A series or a show with the same characters being developed over a period of episodes would work. The characters in these type of shows usually have distinctively portrayed personalities, good or bad, honest or dishonest, devious or naive. Your job is to identify what you think about their actions. You will become a silent judge condemning or excusing them, using the laws God wrote in your heart along with your conscience, sometimes accusing them, sometimes defending them.
Judging others’ actions with the second commandment activates your own heart and mind as in Romans 2:15. Judging their actions will produce an opinion based on what God has written on the tablets of your heart and in your mind. Judging fictitious characters is an excellent way to practice making decision using your own heart and mind, not on someone else’. Doing so will offer two scenarios, the secular one played by the the character, and a spiritual one based on the second commandment and your own heart and mind; the way you would ‘love as yourself’.
One of these scenarios will be more pleasing than the other. Make a conscious decision at this point which one is better in some way or another, or perhaps many ways. The more pleasing one will be the one that best aligns you with God, the one that pleases your soul, being in agreement with both heart and mind . Choosing this scenario is an act of repenting to Jesus’ Word; following His commandment. The more we do it, the better we get, the quicker we get, the happier we get. It’s natural, pleasing, and fun, choosing God’s way. The process becomes habitual and in no time at all His way, will become your way as you begin to trust and love God, and His Word with your whole heart, whole mind, and your whole soul.
