My Journey

A journey I had longed for my entire life, just started!  My spiritual one.   It started the very second I answered my own question while driving to Calgary one morning.  I had just finished asking myself ‘ well, was God’s Word good?’  Yes!!! I yelled out enthusiastically, ‘you can’t get any better proof than that!

Proof!  That thing I had been seeking for as long I could remember.  I had convinced myself that I needed proof in order to have faith in His Word, I had demanded it of Him.  I had tried every avenue I could, looking for it without any success.  I think in fact I was nearly hopeless.  On my way to work at sixty six years of age and I still hadn’t found any proof…until now!

Fast forward seven years.

My spiritual journey started at a pinpoint in time, the moment I began to trust God’s Word.  I had not been looking for a journey, I wanted faith.  I think by this time I really had no idea of what I was looking for anymore, something called faith, something I refused to have without proof.  Now I had it and  along with the proof came trust and the start of my journey to faith.  It wasn’t instant like I thought it would be,  it just started and kept going.

My journey had started the moment my mind had accepted my thoughts as proof.  I had provided enough evidence somehow, to reach a threshold required to become proof.  I did not decide it was proof; the decision was made for me.

What I had proven to myself was that using God’s Word changed my thinking…every time.  His Word truly is alive and exerts force.  It’s this force that changes my thinking in the same way centrifugal force changes a bicycle ride.  It’s always available and active when using His Word.

So started for me a form of communication with God using the  second great commandment.  Just trying to figure out the first part ‘LOVE your neighbour AS YOURSELF ‘, always left me with what I called a spiritual viewpoint; God’s Viewpoint.  I loved it!  It was always better in really nice ways, more compassionate, loving, or forgiving but what I loved the most was how close it made me feel to God when I chose his view better than mine.

I was so thrilled to finally be feeling a real connection I wanted to feel it as often as possible.  I began looking for anything I could wonder about that required me to think of how I ‘love as myself’, what would make me feel loved in any particular scenario.  This is the part I think is exactly like when I first rode my bike.  Once I knew how, I wanted to ride it everywhere and all the time.

Finding proof so easy and readily available after a lifetime of seeking it is indescribable.  I began to ooze trust and faith using this commandment.  Each time, the process drew me closer to God with a deeply joyful experience, leaving me with an image of a new strand  woven into a rope  manifesting  itself between God and me.  After sixty six years of looking for faith and now finding it, I was on a down hill run with a full head of steam!

The trust forming from such constant use was becoming rock solid.  I knew I trusted this Word completely and had real faith in it.  I was using the spiritual viewpoint in my job and daily life now.  I had gotten so good and so so quick at seeing the spiritual viewpoint of things I was using it without thinking.  This commandment was now a subconscious thought running in real time, guiding and showing  me God’s Viewpoint about everything happening in my day.

Just imagine, I was developing faith in the Word of God, and not just any Word either, this Word was the one that all the laws and prophets hang upon.  Could there have possibly been a better scripture to begin building trust in? I don’t think so, and I don’t think it was by accident either.  This process was God answering my pleading, demanding, and praying for Him to show me some proof!  It had always been there, I just didn’t know how to see it until He showed me.

I have faith.  Now what?  God’s Word was guiding me, but where?
