KOOTENAY PRECHURCH

Habits,

We all have them. Some good, some not so much. Some helpfull, some not so much. Pretty much all children go to preschool now days where basic behaviours and habits are introduced, preparing the child for their upcoming, formative learning years (formative building trust and developing faith years).

Imagine the task of teaching children The Golden Rule (TGR). Not being a teacher of children I can’t imagine it at all, but it is one of those habits pre-school teachers try to instill in those young minds. It’s fair to say it’s a difficult but important task we all want our children to learn. We all see the value of it.

I see a way of teaching TGR that can be fun for both children and teachers. Getting a child to judge their own feelings and think of how they should treat another child with that information, sounds like a lot on paper and even more in real life. If however, we get the child to judge how a character in a childrens show is using TGR, they will use the same process they would if they were judging themselves. Even though they are making decisions about others they are discovering how they themselves would like to be treated; that information needed by TGR. It is easy to see many ways this type of teaching could be used and enjoyed among groups or individually. The more times a child judges how others are using TGR, the more times they reinforce their own TGR thinking, forming a very useful, deep seated habit.

Let’s not forget that TGR is one of God’s teachings.

We are all children of God. If you are a newcomer to church and His Word, Kootenay Prechurch can help you form the kind of habits that trust grows upon . What’s good for our children is also good for God’s children. We can all develop a habit of judging others’ use of TGR and benefit from it just as much as our children can. Our mind will recognize the impecable wisdom God has written on the tablets of our heart while searching for the answers to TGR. As well, our mind will begin to repent to His Wisdom all on its own; it will change us in mind, heart, and soul. It will be the beginning of accomplishing Jesus’ greatest commandment; to love our God with our whole mind, our whole heart, and our whole soul.

The Bible tells us ‘faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain’; this is one way to begin. If todays’ world has built a mountain of doubt between you and God, the faith you will build using TGR is plenty to move that mountain from in front of you, to a long way behind you; it sure did me.
